Education Committee

April 28, 2022 by l1zl33d

Our Education Committee focuses on protecting our children. We stay on top of what is going on with the New Hanover County School System and Board of Education. A determined and dedicated group of moms, grandmothers, educators and concerned community members – we fight hard to uncover what is really going on in our school system and make our voices heard!

We welcome all members to join us at School Board meetings (download a map here).

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Researcher: Review NHCS contracts, budgets (follow the money), teacher training presentations and resources,
  • Citizen Detectives: Do you have kids in NHCS? Are you connected with teachers/staff? We want you to connect with parents and staff to learn about teacher trainings, student curriculum, surveys, programs, research what books are in our libraries and what videos are being shown.
  • Parent Resource Coordinator: Find resources help support parent rights.
  • Book Reviewer: Love to read? Perfect! We volunteers to actually read the books that are being given to our children.

Legislation Committee

April 28, 2022 by l1zl33d

Our legislation committee works to make a difference in local and state issues. If there is an issue or bill on the table that we need to either support or fight – we are on top of it! We attend meetings, do the research to really know what is really being done, and then we get to work. The committee’s outreach team strategically calls and emails our legislators and spreads the word within our club when it’s time to make some noise!

Volunteer Positions:

  • Legislation Chair: Oversee committee, drive engagement, set objectives and strategy.
  • Researcher: Look into proposed bills details, report to group
  • Gatherer: Attend meetings and report back to the group (Local and State events)
  • Outreach Leader: oversee outreach to legislators and track activity
  • Outreach Team: Make calls and emails legislators
  • Writer: Provide concise articles on bills and committee updates that we can include in newsletter

The Voter Integrity Committee strives to ensure New Hanover county voices are heard. We believe each legal vote counts and are passionate about voter ID, clean voter rolls and voting systems we can trust. We work with legislation and volunteer to work at the polls and be poll monitors. Our goal is to ensure that each voting location has volunteers covering it. In addition to working to ensure safe, secure elections, we promote voter registration, host Red Wave Voting Rallies and campaign across the county handing out fliers and educational materials.

  • Poll Workers
  • Poll Monitors
  • Handout sample ballots outside polls during election

Protect Your Child’s Data – Stop Surveys in Their Tracks.

April 28, 2022 by l1zl33d

Did you know schools are currently using surveys to collect private data on students? Student evaluations are being conducted under SEL programs to drive data based decisions.

You have the right to protect your child from these invasive surveys. Have a conversation with your student and ask them to make you aware of any surveys their school administers.

The National Center for Education Statistics states that the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) protects students and parents:

First, parents have the opportunity to review certain federal surveys or instructional materials used in conjunction with surveys and to provide consent for their child’s participation in them.

Second, PPRA requires that state or local education agencies, and their contractors or representatives, obtain prior consent from the parent if they plan to collect information from students concerning the following items:

  • political affiliation;
  • mental and psychological problems;
  • sexual behavior and attitudes;
  • illegal or self-incriminating behavior;
  • critical assessments of other individuals or family members;
  • privileged information given to lawyers, physicians, or ministers;
  • religious practices, affiliations, or beliefs (newly added under NCLB); and
  • income (other than what is required by law for program eligibility).

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) – Sounds good right?

April 28, 2022 by l1zl33d

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) has spread throughout our country. Its soft language is appealing and sounds like something everyone should be in favor of, BUT don’t be fooled. SEL is a trojan horse for Critical Race Theory. It teaches divisive ideologies, trains children to see color not character, and fundamentally changes performance-based academics to deliver forced equity (equal outcomes).

All states follow an SEL curriculum to some extent. The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) is the self-described “trusted source for knowledge about high-quality, evidence-based social and emotional learning (SEL)” and provides SEL curriculum to many states. SEL was redefined by CASEL in December 2020, to Transformative SEL which promotes educational equity, social justice and aims to create student activist.

Transformative SEL is a Weapon for Social Justice it emphasizes student “identities” and “marginalization,” “equity,” “just communities,” and the “collective” rather than the individual. These same principles are the foundation of Critical Race Theory.

SEL was introduced over 25 years ago claiming noble intentions of exemplifying good character and addressing bullying and sexual harassment, missions everyone can support. This program has revealed itself as yet another manipulative tool being used to indoctrinate our children. Learn more about SEL:
